PENHALIGON'S AND THE ROYAL COURT
A trip down memory lane in honour of His Majesty's coronation.
As preparations begin for an extended weekend of celebration, Penhaligon’s reminisces over the history books in honour of His Majesty King Charles lll's coronation. Proudly serving the Royal family throughout our 150-year history, Penhaligon’s is no stranger to a royal knees up. In fact, our ties to The Royal Court begin all the way back with Queen Alexandra. Would you fancy that!
HIS MAJESTY KING CHARLES lll's CORONATION: PENHALIGON’S AND THE ROYAL COURT
Cast your mind aback, won’t you, to 1870. William opens his barber shop on Jermyn Street and proceeds to trim the tresses of many of Mayfair’s Bright Young Things. Quickly building a rapport with London’s elite, the dab-handed barber is inspired by the Turkish baths where he was resident, and creates his first fragrant concoction, the Hammam Bouquet. Clientele clamour for more and by Jove does William oblige.
During the late Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, Penhaligon’s had the honour of adding two more Royal warrants to its name, from the Duke of Edinburgh’s in 1956 and HRH The Prince of Wales (now His Majesty The King's) in 1988. We’re proud to have maintained a close connection to the Royal Court throughout our history and look forward to a happy and glorious future as we continue our journey to entertain the world’s nostrils with a dose of Britishness.
