The poet of the Penhaligon’s line.

I initially dismissed Endymion. The coffee note worried me, and in the boutique it seemed overshadowed by louder and more theatrical fragrances such as Halfeti. But after spending time with it, I have come to appreciate it immensely. The opening is fresh and slightly aromatic, but quickly gives way to something difficult to describe: rain-soaked stone, clary sage, clean linen, black tea, faint coffee, soft resins, and a gentle, cultivated melancholy. A quietly beautiful fragrance and one of the few modern masculine scents that feels genuinely Romantic in the literary sense of the word. Rain, books, tea, and poetry. An overcast afternoon in England, a young scholar reading Shelley, a train journey through the countryside, a worn tweed jacket, Finzi on the stereo while rain taps softly against the windows.
