Highgrove House. Nestled in the verdant heart of Gloucestershire, you’ll find the private residence of His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla – but beyond the honey-coloured walls lies Highgrove Gardens, a sanctuary of manicured lawns, walled gardens, and wildflower meadows. The gardens are a living testament to His Majesty’s deep, enduring passion for the natural world, each having been crafted with care and dedication over the course of more than four decades.

THE STUMPERY

One such garden is The Stumpery, a tranquil, atmospheric place that plays on the Victoria tradition of growing ferns out of upturned tree trunks. It is place where nature is free to roam, a woodland wilderness in all its beauty.

The Stumpery is also home to the daphne flower, the inspiration behind Penhaligon’s latest eau de parfum, Daphne Bouquet. Penhaligon’s were lucky enough to capture the daphne flower in bloom which happens in early spring, filling the air with a citrus-like sweetness, as well as capturing quiet moments of The Stumpery.

A serene and enchanting place, The Stumpery is also imbued with quiet wonder and moments of striking craftsmanship. Presiding over a clearing in the middle of this woodland is the statue of the Goddess of the Wood, sitting as a silent guardian over the natural beauty that flourishes in her midst. Tucked away at the end of the garden is another captivating feature, the Wall of Gifts; pieces of architectural stone collected by His Majesty, as well as donations crafted by students from The King’s Foundation, each telling a unique story and presiding over The Stumpery.​ ​
