The final two additions to the Anthology Collection

  • We are delighted to launch two new fragrances from the Anthology Collection today; Esprit du Roi and Eau Sans Pareil.

  • These astonishing fragrances are the final instalment in the collection which has seen ten unique and diverse scents brought back to life from our archives.  A selection of these formulations have remained unchanged, offering a unique insight into the fragrance tastes and trends of the era, whilst others have been carefully reformulated to ensure they appeal to modern fragrance wearers while still retaining a unique heritage feel.

Eau Sans Pareil was originally created in 1988. Reformulated by Beverley Bayne the scent has been transformed into a ‘shimmering chypre.’ The unusual combination of succulent fruits with  liquorice and sweet woods give the fragrance a sweet and powdery drydown. For me the scent embodies a British summer, a warm glorious day on the coast, striped deck chairs, beach huts, and ice cream. I can imagine the heat of the sun as the notes sparkle and linger on my skin. Comforting, mourish and addictive.

Esprit du Roi Eau de Toilette

Esprit du Roi  is dark and mysterious. Perfumer Bertrand Duchafour (who has previously created Orange Blossom and Amaranthine for Penhaligon’s) has once again created a scent of contrasts, reformulating the scent since it’s creation in 1983. The complex and perplexing formulation takes you on an exhilarating journey of endless twists and turns. The fresh citrus notes of tomato leaf and mint dissipate into rich and heady florals with a rich and woody base replete with ambergris, musk and raspberry absolute. Each aspect of the dry down transports me to a different and magical place; the lush green banks of the River Nile, exotic spice markets in Marrakech and the dense misty forests of northern Laos.

Which scent do you think you’d prefer? I know I still can’t make a decision.
