Christmas is in the air...
Once upon a time, two British icons came together at the most magical time of the year. The Savoy and Penhaligon’s, both favoured by the great and the good, and alike in their rich heritage, joined together to bring the scents of Christmas to the air of London.
Christmas is in The Air is an ode to the time-old tradition of decorating a Christmas tree, a custom that became widespread in Britain when Queen Victoria married Prince Albert, who brought the tradition from Germany.
A Savoy Christmas by Penhaligon’s will feature a stunning showpiece in the Front Hall; a magnificent tree will be surrounded by whimsical features reminiscent of Christmas in Victorian London, created exclusively for Penhaligon’s by artist Kristjana Williams.
This interactive installation will take the form of a beautifully illustrated pop-up story-book with a Christmas tale featuring Penhaligon’s festive characters. Layer upon layer of 3D design will fill the space, with elaborate arched gates opening to reveal a vintage car, with spinning wheels and glittering lights, on its way to deliver an array of beautifully wrapped presents. A classic tree will be adorned with limited edition Christmas baubles, featuring the exclusive Christmas print, and red velvet ribbons. Christmas is in The Air will continue throughout the whole of The Savoy, incorporating the Upper Thames Foyer, Thames Foyer and Savoy Tea window display, and will include Savoy Christmas crackers with miniature Penhaligon’s fragrances.
The British fragrance house, Penhaligon’s, have this year bottled Christmas, with their Christmas is in The Air home spray and candles; and so The Savoy will be filled with notes of crisp fir balsam needles and cedarwood, recreating the green, woody atmosphere of the lush pine forest.
The Savoy’s floral design team, will work tirelessly throughout the night on Saturday 25 November to transform the entire hotel. Hotel guests retiring to bed at The Savoy on Saturday night will wake up to A Savoy Christmas by Penhaligon’s on Sunday 26 November.
With Christmas in the air, they all lived happily ever after.
