SOUTHERN TREASURES: CAPTIVATING CORNWALL

As part of Penhaligon’s Wish You Were Here campaign, we’ve uncovered six Hidden Gems, one for each of our chosen British seaside resorts. Six delightfully secluded spots that one might otherwise miss.

Stop by, if you can –opportunities to revel in beachside bounties such as these must be availed of.

The Egyptian House – Cornwall

The Egyptian House – Cornwall

Penzance is a place that Penhaligon’s knows well. It’s deep-rooted in our humble beginnings, don’t you know? So, we simply couldn’t trek to Cornwall without taking a stroll around our founder’s former stomping ground.

It was while sauntering along our beloved Chapel Street, where William took up his post as a barber’s apprentice, that we happened upon the Egyptian House. The façade is something out of King Tut’s dreams, it’s a pseudo-Egyptian style clearly created to emphasize the beautiful and bizarre specimens found inside.

Originally, The Egyptian House was a museum and gift shop that laid claim to an array of rare pebbles found on the beaches of Penzance. Today, The Egyptian House sits amongst the array of buildings featured on The Landmark Trust website, and is available as a place for weary wanderers to rest their head for the night, or weekend. That’s right, this vestige of Victorian history is available to rent! We couldn’t think of a better place to kick off our walking boots after a day spent roaming the streets of Penzance.
