Nathalie Vinciguerra, our Head of Fragrance Development, was lucky enough to attend the prestigious event as a guest of Olivier and was greatly moved by how touching the ceremony was.
Olivier has created numerous fragrances for a variety of brands including Dolce & Gabanna, Jean Paul Gaultier, Thierry Mugler and Nina Ricci. Born in Grasse in 1955 to a family heavily involved in the world of fragrance (both his grandfather and father bought and sold raw materials), Olivier always dreamt of becoming a perfumer – even by the young age of 7 he had already started to mix essences at home! In the 1970’s Olivier left Grasse for America to study raw materials and it was here that he learnt about food aromas and chromatology, which would go on to greatly influence the signature gourmand notes for which he is so renowned.When Olivier left America and returned to France he joined De Laire and Quest before moving to Firmenich in 1992, for whom he remains working for today. It was in this year that Olivier was awarded the esteemed title of master perfumer and created one of his most famous fragrances, Angel by Thierry Mugler, which is described by Frédéric Mitterrand himself as a ‘blockbuster of a fragrance.’ It was the first modern gourmand scent ever created, and is characterised by notes of chocolate, caramel, vanilla and patchouli; for those of you who have smelt Juniper Sling, you may recognise the gourmand notes of orange brandy, black cherry and brown sugar within the fragrance!
