Summer may be drawing to a close, but that doesn't mean we need to forget the sights and smells of the high season. In particular? The smell of Highgrove Bouquet, a fragrance of earthly sunshine. To celebrate this most regal eau de parfum created in collaboration with Highgrove Gardens, we invited ceramics artist Leora Honeyman to create ten unique sculptural home diffusers for the fragrance.

Penhaligon’s sat down with Leora in her studio to explore her creative process and talk about her artistry.

THE ARTIST

Leora Honeyman is a multi-disciplinary artist who specialises in glass and ceramics, continually pushing the boundaries between material, pattern, use and form. Leora studied at the Royal College of Art, and was awarded a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust in 2020, specialising in industrial pottery skills, and large borosilicate-tube lampworking. We approached Leora for her unique take on nature and sculpture, which we’re thrilled seeing come to life through these diffusers.

THE DESIGN

The design of the Highgrove Diffuser is inspired by the silver lime flower, a type of linden plant and one of the key notes in Highgrove bouquet. Each diffuser consists of 26 seperate pieces, most of which are made from a mixture of Parian and Bistro porcelain. This type of porcelain vitrifies at an especially low temperature, making it a more environmentally frendly material than standard porcelain (which beautifully complements the ethos behind Highgrove Bouquet).

Leora hand-modelled the petals from coloured clay, in varying shades of green and yellow, and played with a variety of textures and colours to make each diffuser unique. As for the base of the diffusers (a geometrical design inspired by the shapes of the flower itself), these were sprayed with glazes and ceramic stains to create the ombres. The patterns found on some of the diffusers are applied with ceramic decals, carved, or 'slip-trailed' and in-laid. The final surprising flourish? The clay used for the inner parts itself helps diffuse the scent, so you can almost mimic smelling the flower in real life.

HIGHGROVE BOUQUET

The Highgrove Bouquet eau de parfum is inspired by the weeping silver lime trees that reside at the Highgrove Estate, the private residence of His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The new fragrance has been created with responsibly sourced ingredients and thoughtfully packaged with sustainable materials. With notes of mimosa and cedar, Highgrove Bouquet perfectly captures a summer's day, bright and fresh as sunrise.

We’re happy to say that 10% of all sales of Highgrove Bouquet will go towards the wonderful work by The King's Foundation, His Royal Highness’s acclaimed charitable organisation. The King's Foundation offers education and training programmes across a broad range of disciplines, from artisanal and heritage craft skills to horticulture and engineering. These are available for all ages and backgrounds, with many programmes taking place at Highgrove itself.

The Highgrove Bouquet Home Diffusers are available exclusively at our King's Road boutique in London. Only ten have been made, each by hand, and present a one-of-a-kind piece that is both functional and sculptural. Each comes complete with fragrance oil and a refill bottle.
