A soliflore, Gardenia is a translucent watercolour in soft washes of tuberose, jasmine, gardenia, ylang-ylang, spice and vanilla. A radiant magnolia-tinted portrait of one of nature's most sensual blooms.
Gardenia was originally created in 1976 and has been resurrected as part of our 2009 Anthology Collection.
Penhaligon's Gardenia beautifully captures a stroll around a secluded country estate. Opening in the potager, one notices citrus fruits being cultured for cocktails and cake making, the green leaves of vines climbing over the glasshouse and clinging to the roof while colourful magnolias provide vibrancy to the surroundings. Making one’s way through to the forest gardens one’s nose is wonderfully overwhelmed with a myriad white floral bouquet: the careful crafting of the heart of Gardenia blends into a single, deep, floral fragrance, with the occasional hints of sweet gardenia, fresh rose or rich ylang-ylang coming to the fore before subsiding back into the blossomy milieu. All the while, this botanic brilliance is balanced with the animalic musk of deer that might have roamed the previous night and the woods of the nearby trees. Penhaligon’s Gardenia finally finishes with a wander through the untamed forest, with the wood and faint musk all that remain.Would you recommend it? : Yes
