  • Created in 2008, Elixir opens with eucalyptus and the harmonising hot spices of cardamom, cinnamon and mace. The heart notes massage the senses with the dark magic of Turkish rose and jasmine and a twist of orange. Heat and smoke rise from the base and incense and woods mingle with the earthy resins and spices. A touch of vanilla and the hypnotic Tonka bean complete the atmospheric dry-down. Opulent and daring, mysterious and complex, Elixir echoes Hammam Bouquet, created by William Penhaligon in 1872.

    • One of my favourite scents, it reminds me ancient churches and winter evenings, comforting, reassuring and warm. I also love how it mellows on the skin after a few hours, then persists with a gentle scent of spice and incense well into the evening.

    • A Spicy, Sensuous Favourite!

    • I fell in love with the spice and warmth of elixir. I have a tendency to prefer the more woody, masculine scents and elixir fits the bill. It mellows in the day, but is strong enough at night to feel 'special'. A classic.

    • I love how Elixir is not too 'girly' and that it smells so exotic. It not too fancy for everyday, but also not too pedestrian for a special occasion!

    • Spicy, Soft And Warm
    • by anonymous
    • Elixir is aptly named, a spicy, lightly smoky blend that is mysterious and warm, but with a certain clarity from the herbal notes. It opens with cardamon, cinnamon and incense, with eucalyptus giving a much needed brightness. The floral heart adds depth, while the tonka and rosewood base give a richness to the blend. Classy, elegant and sophisticated without being old fashioned.

    • Can only agree with David (June) - it's been my 'seasonal' choice since I first found it: use from Michaelmas 'til Candlemas , or even during Lent (adjust dates according to prevailing weather conditions....) then return to your usual seasonal choice for day-to-day use (last Wimbledon has seen me out of [defunct?] Raquets)

    • If Bram Stoker were alive today, he'd wear Elixir. It smells of vampires! Deliciously tempting, immortal, seductive, elegant, gothic, carnal. The bottle is almost sinful too with it's blood-red bow about its throat. I wear this when I need to set pulses racing.

    • Magic In A Bottle
    • by David
    • This is a beautifully evocative fragrance which still retains its seasonality. I can only wear it in autumn and winter and only WANT to wear it then: it conjures up dark days, gloomy nights, burning wood smoke, a bath in candlelight, Christmas spice, a visit to midnight mass. It is mystical, spiritual and intoxicating: you breathe it in like incense and it draws you into its magic. Yes, it is lugubrious, but it is also hauntingly sexy, almost profane. Dare I say it, like being seduced in a church?

    • Not Just For Men!
    • by Sandra
    • Don't be put off by the outdated "male fragrance / female fragrance" labelling this is a rich and exotic fragrance which gets many favourable comments whenever I wear it! For me, Elixir is my favourite Autumn in a bottle, and I would love to see more items in the collection body lotion perhaps, or hand cream.
