Vaara has been created by Master Perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour – whose talents lay in creating olfactory landscapes and atmospheric scents, be that for L’Artisan Parfumeur or Eau d’Italie.
Not only is Bertrand a talented artist in the realm of olfaction, but also in the visual arts. We are lucky enough to be able to share with you a collection of sketches from Bertrand, detailing his inspirations behind this modern and intensely beautiful scent.
Master Perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour started his career as a perfumer in 1985, at the Lautier Florasynth Group in Grasse, the home of the perfume industry. In 1988, he moved to Paris with Florasynth, and ten years later he joined Créations Aromatiques. Bertrand now works as a freelance perfumer for a number of niche fragrance houses with his laboratory based close to the Louvre in Paris.
Bertrand’s creative process follows two fundamental principles; first, he believes that balance is achieved when opposites attract, like yin and yang. Second, nothing is lost and nothing is created, instead everything is transformed. He distorts and deconstructs nature, playing with contrasts such as vegetable notes mixed with animal notes, light with dark and synthetic, man-made materials, with natural compositions.
