Imagine 500 people who work in perfumery gathered in one place. Now imagine what that room would smell like! Last night we went to the annual FIFI awards (an industry awards event celebrating all things fragrant) and have never smelt anything quite like it.
The awards were held at the rather beautiful Banqueting House on White Hall, just a stone’s throw from Downing Street. The interior is breathtaking…this was the ceiling of the room the awards were held in!
After a delicious three course dinner the awards ceremony started. Our fragrance Sartorial was nominated for ‘Best Men’s Fragrance in a Limited Distribution’ so we were rather nervous! The awards were hosted by the rather dapper George Lamb, who said we were the best smelling audience ever.
Sadly we were pipped to the post for our award by Tom Ford’s Azure Lime, but were cheered up when the brilliant Andy Tauer won the Niche fragrance award; we really admire his work and were lucky enough to meet the man himself! I also got a sniff of Zeta his newest creation which is a soft and dreamy linden blossom.
We were also really pleased that Harrods and Roja Dove won an award for their brilliant perfumery exhibition ‘The Perfume Diaries’. If you’re interested in reading up about perfume then we highly recommend his book The Essence of Perfume. Our copy is rather battered, as we refer to it all the time!
So even though we didn’t win our award we had a fantastic night, caught up with some of our fragrance friends and even had a fourth generation perfumer sat at our table (Francois Robert)! Which just goes to show that it’s the taking part that counts!
And of course there’s always next year!
